Building a website is not as easy as you may first think. It takes many years of experience for a web design and development team to gain the skills they require to build websites to the highest standard. They must also possess the right time management skills to make sure that the project stays to timescale as much as possible.

Today – we look at just a few things that if kept in mind during your website build – which could help speed up the process.

Initial Design / Build:

A lot of thought needs to go into the site during the initial stages. The design of the website must be created with the business branding and the customer in mind. It needs to be engaging and visually appealing to entice customers to buy or ask for further information.

Having a clear precise plan regarding functionality is just as vital because once the site has been built, it will save a lot of time from fixing issue’s not completed correctly in the beginning.

If you are able to provide your vision of the website and examples of what sites you like and don’t like – then the above can be completed much quicker as the team will have something to compare against.

Content:

One of the longest periods of time during a website build is the time it takes to work along side the client to obtain the content to be used on the site.

Because clients are running their business it can take time for them to write the content needed for the website and to select the correct images/artwork they would like their web design and development team to use.

Your web design and development team should completely understand this and have the ability to obtain such information in a timely manner to keep the project to it’s timescale as much as possible.

The information required is usually about the business and about the service or product you wish to provide. Having this information to hand at the start of the project would save a vast amount of time.

E-commerce:

If you have plans on selling products via your website – then you will need to add a payment processor solution (PayPal / WorldPay) to the site to enable customers to pay.

Depending on what solution you require – it can take some time to setup an account and to provide the details that the web design and development team require to make all work correctly.

Once the solution is in place on the website – it also needs to be tested by the web team to make sure all is functioning as it should be.

During the account setup stage – we advise that you keep in constant contact with the payment solution team. We found that if contact them regularly for updates on the progress of your account and to ask about the settings your web design and development team require – they will provide them much quicker. If left to them – they will simply place you in a queue and will get back to you in turn.
